Volunteer Role: Community Nature Guide
We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals to help lead and support outdoor community programs across Salt Lake City and the surrounding Wasatch Range. Whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or someone who loves birds, plants, fungi, or local ecosystems, this is a chance to turn your interests into meaningful experiences for others.
What You’ll Do
Help lead or co-lead community nature programs (walks, workshops, events)
Share knowledge about topics you’re passionate about (ex: birdwatching, wildflowers, urban ecology, insects, fungi, etc)
Support participant engagement and create a welcoming, inclusive environment
Assist with basic program logistics as needed
What We’re Looking For
An interest in nature, outdoor education, or environmental stewardship
Comfort engaging with groups (teaching experience is a plus, but not required)
Willingness to share your knowledge and co-lead alongside staff
People with specific interests are especially encouraged (birds, native plants, fungi, wildlife, etc.)
Why Volunteer With Us
Help build accessible outdoor experiences in your community
Share your passion and learn from others
Gain experience in environmental education and program facilitation
Be part of a supportive, nature-loving community
Time Commitment
Flexible. We host community events twice a month, and volunteers can choose which dates and programs they’d like to support.
Location
Programs take place at accessible parks and natural areas throughout Salt Lake City, as well as at the Rock Cliff Nature Center in Jordanelle State Park. Volunteers can choose locations that fit their interests and availability.
