WMI Supports the Every Kid Outdoors Initiative

Passed by the Utah State Legislature in 2019, WMI’s programs ensure that all Utahns have opportunities to participate in the following activities:

WMI supports the EKO initiative in our school programs, in our activities at the Rock Cliff Nature Center, and with the following community programs:

camping in color

A camping program is designed for Black children and youth who have minimal-to-no prior experience with their families going tent camping to enhance a sense of belonging, appreciation, and engagement in the outdoors.

We are so excited that our first-ever Camping in Color overnight program was a huge success! This camping program is designed for Black youth and children who have minimal-to-no prior experience with their families going tent camping to enhance a sense of belonging, appreciation, and engagement in the outdoors!

Our goal with CiC is to increase outdoor recreation and education participation amongst Black youth, as well as provide an opportunity for positive youth development amongst a culturally representative social environment.

We are currently planning our next CiC event!

Nature Smart Libraries

By utilizing public library space and resources in new ways we can benefit library patrons’ mental and physical health through connecting with nature.

An initiative funded through the Cities Connecting Children to Nature grant program from the Children and Nature Network and the National League of Cities, the Nature Smart Libraries program seeks to support libraries with resources and opportunities to engage their community with new outdoor opportunities.

On this page you’ll find resources on getting outside in your neighborhood as well as a neighborhood scavenger hunt!

Nature Smart Libraries is also in partnership with Utah’s Every Kid Outdoors program.
